How to read a Supplement Facts label in five minutes
Published Nov 1, 2026 · Vilorra
Every dietary supplement sold in the US carries a Supplement Facts panel. Once you know where to look, it answers most of the questions a product name leaves open.
Serving size comes first
The serving size tells you how many capsules, tablets, softgels or scoops make one serving. Every amount on the panel is per serving, not per capsule. A product with "2 capsules" as the serving size delivers the listed amounts only when you take both.
Servings per container sets the real supply
Divide the count by the serving size. 60 capsules at 2 per serving is 30 servings. This is the number to use when you compare prices across bottles of different sizes.
Amount per serving and % Daily Value
Each ingredient is listed with its amount. Vitamins and minerals usually show a % Daily Value too. Ingredients without an established Daily Value show an amount only.
Proprietary blends
Some labels group ingredients into a named blend and give one total weight for the blend. That tells you which ingredients are in it, but not how much of each.
Directions and warnings
Directions say how and when to take the product. Warnings usually cover pregnancy, nursing, age limits and medication. Follow the label on the product you receive, because labels can change.
How we use this on Vilorra
Our product pages show the form, count and serving size when the listing states them, and mark them "Not confirmed" when it does not. Compare multivitamins such as 10X Health Optimize or the New Chapter One Daily 55+ formulas side by side in their categories.
